As more children and families joined our community, we found it important to identify an approach that allowed everyone to participate comfortably. Below is the policy we adopted after community meetings and other discussions that took place in late 2009:
- A section of the room in which we daven is set aside for families with children. When we meet in the Rabbi's office, that section is the back two rows; in the chapel, it is the front of the room.
- There are a few portions of the service when children are invited to take a central role:
- Children are invited to follow the torah as it is carried around the room at the beginning of the torah service. Kindershul will begin after the torah has been taken out.
- Children are invited to help lead Adon Olam; parents are welcome to join their children. In order to facilitate kids' ability to take on this role, we'll be using the same tune for Adon Olam each week.
