The mission of Tikkun, Altshul’s social action and social justice committee is to engage our community in public service by providing opportunities to learn, act, and give. Our commitment is focused locally, centering on the Brooklyn neighborhoods that are close to home, while offering opportunities to donate to those in need worldwide. Our events, programs, and drives aim to build the Altshul community, strengthen our Jewish identities, and provide effective service to numerous organizations.
Partnerships
In 2010 we began a partnership with Providence House, a women’s shelter that aims to break the cycle of homelessness by helping its residents obtain permanent housing, job skills, employment, and resources in child care. Located in Park Slope, Providence House offers numerous openings for volunteerism including mentoring, interview prep, children’s literacy programs and homework help, cooking lessons, and themed events in the house.
